The 1-8-1 Rule

EFN is built around this foundational and easy to remember core rule:

  • 1 bounce allowed on the rival’s court

  • 8 seconds to retain/control and return the ball

  • 1 final action to complete the play/ strike a point.

This creates a fast-paced, tactical, and explosive attack and defense gameideal for competition, fitness, and skill development.

EFN Key Rules

SINGLES: 1 VS 1 

Basic Rules

  • Played on a court divided by a net. 
  • Scored by Points: Points are won by executing strategic shots the opponent cannot return within 1 bounce and 8 seconds of time.
  • Played by sets: 3 sets or 5 sets. 20 points each set. You need to win 2 sets out of 3 or 3 sets out of 5 sets.
  • Serve must be delivered cross-court (diagonally), landing in the opponent’s service zone. 5 seconds to serve.
  • Players must return the ball within 8 seconds using one final action (kick, header, or chest strike)

At Serve

  • No hands to lift the ball at serve.

  • Don’t step on the service line during a serve.

  • At serve, receiver player must be out of the field.  

  • The Ball allows only one bounce on the opponent’s side.

During the Game

  • Only feet, legs, chest, and head can be used — no hands or arms allowed!

  • Touching ball with hands or arms turns opponent’s point. 

  • Every fault is a Point!

  • Ball lands on a sideline during the game, game goes on! Ball is considered In Game!

  • Ball hits net and lands inbound. Play continues.
  • Players must change sides when a set is finished.

DOUBLES: 2 VS 2

  • Basic Rules are the same as single format.
  • On doubles, teammates can pass the ball many times as they want to in 8 Seconds.
  • When a teammate loses a serve, the partner takes over the next serve.
